Like many people I was a M.A.C lover, I wasn't one of those obsessed by collections feeling the urge to feed their habit with every new product available I just respected M.A.C for providing a professional make-up easily accessible to the non pros making us feel equally as good.
Although M.A.C isn't cheap people flock to their nearest stores sometimes travelling miles just to get some of their make-up. The ever changing collections and high profile celebs draw us all in and it becomes more a case of buying it because it's new not because we need it.
M.A.C has transformed make-up into affordable designer accessories as when you see your compact with a designers logo or signature you feel you have a bit of designer in your bag.
I have heard a few whispers the past couple of days surrounding M.A.C and the new Rodarte collection and that people are boycotting the whole range. Personally I thought it was because the collection was poor as it sometimes can be but what I have read tonight turns my stomach. I feel we have been let down by these 2 giants of the make-up/fashion world by making a mockery of someones miss fortune. Peoples loss and unhappiness. While they sit in their big fat chairs raking in millions from their fans the poor people that apparently gave them the inspiration for the ghostly image are working 20 hour days.
To say that you were inspired by the landscape of Mexico to deign this collection makes me wonder why there is a colour called "factory" and what was so inspiring by a seeing a women looking frail and so tired she was zombie like.
I won't go into the whole story surrounding Juarez as there's so many amazing blog posts explaining this, they're flooding in this evening.
Read Jens post HERE
I haven't seen the collection but I have seen the promo pic and everything about it disturbs me. The ghostly figure just makes me think of these really unfortunate women or those who were brutally murdered.

To try make money from others miss fortune is sick, heartless, greedy and sad.
Speaking to a M.A.C worker less than 10 mins ago she told me that the whole layout to M.A.C has changed. She tells me all the big bosses have left and moved on to bigger companies and they are employing anyone and everyone. She used to feel proud working for such a fantastic company now it seems their whole ethics is money.When I asked her what was going on she didn't have a clue so after sourcing all the info she is absolutely shocked!
I will go to bed tonight annoyed, sick to my stomach and let down. If my kit wasn't made up of around 40% M.A.C I'd throw it all out.
Rodarte and M.A.C should hang their heads in shame. Never mind a small proportion going to help the workers how about all the money made on this disgraceful collection should be donated.
I wouldn't keep it if it was in a lucky bag. It's dirty and marked with bad feelings and utter disrespect.
I wanted to reflect my own opinion and let them know how stunned we all are.
I am really reflecting tonight and have realise how much of this is going on!
Really interesting post!
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame it was/is being handled so badly without any compassion!

It's such a sad situation, and I find both MAC nad Rodarte's statements and actions over this collection insulting to both the femicide victims, and to their customers. Its so anger provoking and so saddening, and you have expressed how we are all feeling so well in your post - this whole thing just does not sit right, and makes me personally feel sick to the stomach. Of course MAC and Rodarte are not personally responsible for what has happened in Juarez, but they are responsible for the complete and utter lack of integrity they have shown, as well as the complete disregard for the issues which are (from what I have heard) well publicised in the USA. Just not good enough at all.
ReplyDeleteI know where you're coming from. sick I have been feeling all day, and reading from other blogs has opened my eyes even before. while I will be able to sleep all right tonight, some families out there won't be able to. this is so heart breaking.
ReplyDeletei won't be throwing away my 3 shadows from mac, and shall continue to use them but this has put me off mac even more. How on earth did they go ahead with this, is beyong me. Lovely to read your post chickie, the people sitting in their fat leather chairs raking in profit sicken me too. I doubt we can do anything to stop the collection to actually launch but at least we've tried, right.
If you can bear to read a bit more about it, here's a list of 35 other people who wanted to react about it.

Great blog post! It's disgusting and sad what MAC and Rodarte are doing. Especially since it could have been a great opportunity as to start a foundation/charity for the woman in the factories.
ReplyDeleteMAC really disappointed me with this collection.
Great post, I'm kind of shocked that they didnt expect this backlash. How stupid do they think their loyal customers are?

@mizzworthy your so right thats exactly what it is insulting! They can't be so ignorant to think this wouldn't have repercussion can they? I'm genuinely stunned and really don't understand their lack of compassion for this xx
ReplyDelete@liloo
ReplyDeleteFirstly the fact you took your time to compile a list for this is fantastic hun. Your very considerate, thank you for adding me. I agree that although were fine over here it's the poor families there that are suffereing and have been so for a long long time. It's sad that we have all been made aware of this in such a disgraceful manner. xxx
@minte

@Madame B fatale
