Red Rules

Red lips are a big trend this A/W with different shades and finishes to suit each individual.

I personally prefer the brighter reds with the matte finish but this isn't going to be for everyone.
I already have a post on red lipgloss but this one is more of  a statement look, it requires neat application as it will attract flaws.

We have seen this so much on the runway it seems to crop up every season on someones show. It's timeless image proves it will be around for a long time.

Donna Karen, D&G, Dior, Just Cavalli to name a few have all worked this make-up into their shows and the most common pairing seems to be a pale or glossy eye.

For a more vintage red go deeper with M.A.C ruby woo, for a brighter red try Gabrielle by Chanel in the rouge Coco range.

I used Prestige wild flame which is a beautiful bright true red and lined the lips with matching red lipliner from Prestige.

The best advice for a red lip is to choose one that fits your mood and compliments your tone. Lighter skins generally can carry off the brighter and pink reds whilst darker and olive skins look lovely with deeper berry and peachy reds. Also keep in mind the colour of your teeth if they are slightly yellow then use a blue based red. Don't just take my advice though try a few on you might be surprised.

Cheaper brands are just as pigmented as the expensive ones so test them all !

Is red your thing?

  4. Is the Rimmel one any good? I swatched it in the drugstore last week and it seemed like a pretty, bright red. It looks even better on your pic. :)

  6. I recently tried the red lip for the first time as I am a huge fan of the vintage look and have just perfected the eye makeup and knew to complete the look would have to brave trying the red lip! I bought the Rimmel one as I didn't want to buy an expensive one in case I hated the look and I have to say I am so impressed with this Rimmel lipstick that I am not going to go buy another brand! Its their Colour Show Off in No230 Red Fever and I love it...highly pigmented and I find on me it does not bleed and is a great red for my colouring, plus the pink mentallic packaging is very cute! Its definately not high gloss lipstick which I think helps keep it stay in place, to me feels more like a creme type lippy! A definate winner for a drugstore brand!

  17. I have a problem... I am so addicted to red lipsticks, i have so many (brick red, blue red, coral reds... red glosses, pencils, etc etc.)
I love that they are so timeless and still I find them very sexy... I wish I could wear a red lip every day! Your lip combo here is awesome... I remember it in the Megan Fox video and you looked great x
