I want suggestions from you guys of a look you'd like me to create. Give me colour combos or even a fav celebritiy look!

Hot nail colours for 2010

There's a few key trends for nails this spring, one in particular that I have worn for a while now is nudes and taupes.
This is my second bottle of this mushroom brown colour, it's by Nails inc and is called Jermyn Street. I wore this quite a bit last summer and got asked a million times what it was so thought i'd share.
It's definately an investment as its a shade that looks good in autumn too.

My nails aren't very long at the moment but nude colours elongate the fingers giving a more elegant look.
The 3 shades

O.P.I- Dulce de Leche

  • Colour-beige with a slight orange undertone

  • Avoid- if you have very pale skin as it can make hands look old

  • Price-varys but I find the are priced around £10
Nails inc- Jermyn Street

  • Colour-greyish beige, quite dark on pale skin

  • Avoid-if you have dark skin this will look lost on you, go for bright colours and reds

  • Price-£10.50
China glaze-Innocence

  • Colour-Pale pink

  • Will suit everyone

  • Price-again differs depending on store average £6.50
TIP# When doing a D.I.Y manicure use a cuticle oil after the top coat has dried to keep cuticles soft and nails healthy.
I use Nail inc's vitamin E oil pen. It has a lovely lavender scent and ideally fits into any handbag which is perfect for keep your nails neat and hydrated.
What are your go to spring/summer colours?
Do any of you have these colours?

Catwalk copycat- Dior

Fashion looks

I decided to do another look inspired by fashion. This one was a look taken from a Dior show, I was drawn in by the structure of the whole look. This is art of the face!
Look at the strong cheekbones and sharp cut crease, is it just me or does this seem a bit drag? either way I love it but I wish I had better lighting as I was casting shadows all over my face whilst doing it so couldn't see the inner corner so i'm not happy with that part.

My interpretation

Products used

M.A.C Accentuate and sculpt
M.A.C Espresso eyeshadow
M.A.C down brown eyeshadow

M.A.C Antiqued gold base

Step by step
  1. Cut brows from a black plastic bag and glue on above the eyebrow.
  2. Apply a silver cream eyeliner under arch of the brow
  3. Apply a gold underneath the silver and use the same product on the lid
  4. Using a very pigmented black eyeshadow and a pencil brush trace along the crease to achieve a cut line.
  5. Make a sharpe line using a straight object, I used a receipt. Extend the line from corner eye to brow.
  6. Using a black cream eyeliner create a line on the upper lashline
  7. On the lower inner corner apply a white pigment extending outward
  8. Under the white line draw a thin black line to make eyes appear larger.
  9. Buff black eyeshadow into inner corner and add black glitter and rhinestones.
  10. Under the lower lashline add a little bronze pigment, add lashes and your done.
I am uploading the tutorial on YouTube soon so I will post the video on here or alternatively you could check out my channel directly for more fashion looks.

Make-up matters:Clash or match?

Today I noticed a lady wearing a royal blue dress and matching blue eyeshadow. Although I love both I think I just prefer them seperately. For me it was a bit much as her dress didin't just have a hint of the blue but was a knee length solid block so it really looked obvious.

I think it looks best to contrast when it comes to make-up and clothes. If you have a plain neutral outfit jazz it up with brighter make-up or even go understated with nudes or smokey with greys, khakis and browns.

I don't feel the same applies to accessories or nail varnish as I quite like my nails to reflect my clothes, when it comes to my jewellery I like to pick out colours from my outfit and choose the rings or bracelets accordingly.

When fashion does matchy
When the tones are soft it doesn't seem too bad but I think greys would have looked gorgeous on her eyes here

Clashing colours looks creative and edgy. You don't have to wear bold colours, just ones that compliment but are opposite to the clothes your wearing.

Examples

  • If you wear red you could either match one feature as the lips and tone down the rest of the face or contrast by wearing smokey browns and greens.

  • If you wear black you could either match by going for dark smokey eyes or clash by wearing a pop of orange on the lips o purpl on the lids.

  • If you wear coral you could either match one feature such as lips eyes or mouth, or contrast by wearing a nude face or graphic black eyeliner.
When fashion does clashy

Nicole Farhi clashes purple with green
Marc Jacobs does clashy with an 80's twist
All Google images

Do you clash or match or maybe not even think about it?
What are your tips for teaming make-up with your clothes?

Sigma VS M.A.C ding ding

I wanted to take my time with this and show you both angles of each brush type so you can clearly see the similarities and differences.

Personally I think they have done incredible to create an afforable alternative to the expensive M.A.C brushes. However saying this they aren't ALL equal to or better than the M.A.C brushes. Some I love and others well not too much. This is just a selection of those available

Spot the difference?

My opinion

  • I f you are new to make-up or want to build up your kit then the brush roll is perfect. If you have a specific brush in mind and only need one or two then you could buy them seperately.

  • The Sigma 188 and 187 are fantastic value for money but i'm not as keen on them as I am the M.A.C ones. They just don't seem as firm and I prefer control in my brushes. The big sway would be the price the M.A.C 187 is £29.50! The Sigma one is $16 thats would work out around £10.40

  • The Sigma 252 is a strange one as it is similar to my M.A.C 242 as it is perfect for applying creams to the eye.The M.A.C 252 I have is horrible in comparison.
My reccomendations

  • 109 (small firm face brush, perfect for contouring or applyinging powder)
  • 197 (my favourite! a flat top duo fibre brush, perfect for mineral or powder foundations, and blush
  • 194 (amazing concealer brush its very small tipped)
  • 119 (pencil brushh)
  • 209 (eyeliner brush)
  • 239 (this is perfect for those with small lids)
Sigma sell different brush kits so if you just want to just test them out go for the smaller set.
I am liking the look of the tapered brushes from the premium kit. They aren't available individually but if you want  professional brushes then that kit seems perfect.

Did this help anyone?
If any of you have the premium kit I would love to know your thoughts

Sigma Neutral palette review

Sultry browns using the neutral Sigma palette

I recieved some eyeshadows and brushes from Sigma which was so kind as I had wanted some of their brushes for agggges.
I didn't want to do a haul video and just show you what I had recieved,  I wanted to actually create something pretty and tell you my honest opionion about the products.
It was my first time using the eyeshadows in this tutorial so you can see the true affect. I will let you know the pro's and con's of each item I used

These are the shades found in the quad on the left they are shown dry on the right they are shown wet. I dampened the brush M.A.C's fix+

My Opinion
The eyshadows come beautifully presented and it's a brilliant idea that you can carry single colours in thier own cases or pop them all into a little compact quad.
Colour payoff
Some shades from the neautral quad were very pigmented and transfered true colour
Angie is a lovley pearl colour and very pigmented
Brown sugar is my least favourite the colour didn't transfer as nice as it looks and it's quite flakey
Indian girl  a stunning grey brown and the colour transfers well
Brown eyed girl was lovely to work with and looks better wet

Would I buy the palette?
Yes the colours are quite beautiful but however they are all contain shimmer. If you like using browns and greys you'll like this
Price: Were $36 now $27
Where can I buy it?
My overall thought...
Love the palette would like the brown sugar to be less chunky but I still managed to work with it.
Disclaimer
I was sent the press kit from Sigma cosmetics however I give an honest opinion all based on my own findings.I did not get paid to do this and I will not ever promote a company or product that I have not tried or dislike.

Do you own any Sigma?
If so what are your favourite colours to work with?
Did this review help you at all?

Face Of The Night

This is the look I wore to go out with my friends
I wanted something defined but simple so thought I'd do the sultry smokey brown look I did with the Sigma palette

The only difference from the YouTube tutorial is I took it from day to night by applying black liner in the waterline (inner rim of eye) instead of the pale colour. It just makes the look a little more smokey.

What I used

Eyes
Sigma neutral palette
M.A.C kidd eyeshadow
M.A.C chill eyeshadow
Coastal scents gel eyeliner
Loreal black mascara

Face
M.A.C face and body N3
Chanel bronze universal
M.A.C well dressed blush

Lips
M.A.C angel lipstick
NARS turkish delight lipgloss

Step by Step
  • I applied the lightest colour in the inner corner which was Angie from the Sigma palette
  • Using a 239 by Sigma I used brown sugar from the palette on the rest of the lid.
  • In the crease I applied brown eyed girl from the palette
  • Using a Medusa make-up brush I placed M.A.C's chill as a highlight
  • Between the highlight and the crease colour you want to blend a medium matte brown to create a fade I used M.A.C's Kidd
  • To define the eye more I used the brown eyed girl with a Sigma 219 pencil brush on the outer v.
  • With a liner brush I used the coastal scents black gel eyeliner
  • To finish the look brighten the eye by using Benefits eye bright pencil in the waterliner and finsh with falsies if you like :)

What's Hot!

Chanel tattoos and Statement Jewellery

Chanel is amazing at the best of times but what's not to love about these transfer tattoos?
Temporary Tattoos seem to be the hottest thing right now with designers like Rodarte,Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel using them on their models.

Even though all three donned the trend each designer had a different approach. Rodarte opted for the heavy tribal prints, quite unflattering but bold. Jean Paul Gaultier chose hard, edgy lettering on the face, chest and hands of his models.Meanwhile Chanel's designs were easily the most wearble totally flattering and made to look like statement pieces of jewellery or garters. I know which one i would prefer!

I just love the delicate designs of beads and roses.
Les Trompe L'Oeil de Chanel, £49 for 55 individual Chanel Tattoos, available exclusivly at Selfridges from March 1st

If you don't fancy the designer price tag try making your own temporary tattoos, use any design you want!
Try this http://www.microsoft.com/canada/home/memories-and-crafts/articles/design-your-own-temporary-tattoos.aspx
All you need is a printer and tattoo paper.

Chunky necklaces

These are some awsome statement pieces, the bigger the better I say

Here's two of my own statement necklaces. Both are unusual and quite big.

How to wear them? I personally wear mine with contrasting coloured simple dresses or plain t-shirt and jeans with rocking high heels.

Where can I buy them? The one on the left was from Topshop and on the right Primark.
Both very cheap but many stores are making these bold necklaces now.

How much are they? This really depends where you shop, the primark one was £3.00 Topshop was £15.00

Tip# wear bold necklaces wih confidence don't let them wear you. Think of balance, is your outfit already loud ? if so maybe leave these out. The trick is to look understated.

Do you have any bold jewellery? if so how to you rock yours?

Fashion helps

Fashion for Relief

For those who don't know about Naomi Campbells charity shows,Fashion For Relief  is a fashion show modelled by celebrities. It's a fun event that raises money for for the likes of Haiti and all the proceedings are used to help the women and babies out there who are becoming very vunerable. All the clothing was auctioned afterwards and they have so far raised over £1 million yes thats MILLION pounds with some garments yet to sell. A big proportion of that was from Sir Philip Green who bought the exquisite Alexander McQueen dress that good friend Kate Moss wore.

I'm really pleased that Naomi is in the news for something positive, I wish I could have been there as it seemed very energetic and comical. Well with the likes of Ronnie Corbett, James Corden and David Walliams you wouldn't expect anything else.

Vivienne Westood designed some t-shirts which the stars wore to finish the show. They are limited but if you want to get your hands on them try online http://www.viviennewestwoodonline.co.uk/acatalog/index2.html

They are priced at £40

On the website they say
"It is a fact that women and girls are particularly vulnerable in emergency and crisis situations and are frequently neglected during initial efforts to provide food, water and shelter. Late this January a UN report stated that in Haiti 240,000 pregnant and lactating women will require nutritional support. Proceeds from the sales of the Vivienne Westwood designed t-shirt will go to The White Ribbon Alliance which supports the health needs and rights of women and girls around the world, with special focus on its partners in Haiti at this time who are helping to rebuild the healthcare system for mothers and babies."

A tribute was paid by Naomi and Kate to the pairs late friend, designer Alexander McQueen by wearing his incredible dresses and proudly struttung down the catwalk. I have to say they looked amazing and it's such a loss he's gone.

Smudge it out F.O.T.D

Blend Blend Blend

I did this super simple look using only 2 shadows . It has been given a modern touch by having a light brow.
I am loving the whole balanced look right now. It may seem a little odd as for years everyone has strived for that beauty perfection look with the perfect brows ,eyes, cheeks and lips. Now however it's time for the quirky unusal beauty to shine through.

I've had blonde brows my whole life and for the 1st time in about 12 yrs I haven't felt desperately like I needed to fill them in darker when I wear make-up.It's a flippin revolution!

Fair brows are cool so to all those who thought I was the unpretty, odd looking one at school 2 words...JOG ON! :)

Feeling Fushia

I love Barry M as it's an afforable brand but doesn't compromise on quality.
The shades are all very pigmented and long lasting.
I adore the nail paints as they have amazing coverage, I use only one coat and find it doesn't leave that streaky almost transparent finish that other more expensive brands do.
Some of my favourite nail varnishes belong to Barry M and at £2.95 everyone's a winner!

I have 6 in my collection

  • Mint Green

  • Very bright Coral

  • Fushia

  • Burgandy

  • Navy

  • Black

My Tip# Make sure you use a base coast especially when using bright colours as they stain the nails if they are painted onto a bare nail bed.
To make the nail varnish last longer always apply basecoat, 2 coats of colour and a topcoat.

My Favourite from my collection is Fushia. It's a bright pink and looks great on even short nails like mine.

Barry M always seem to bring on trend colours and have expanded their range considerably

Price: £2.95
