Dolly eyes

Have any of you seen the new Kelis video 4th of July?
I am slightly obsessed with the song, film and Kelis herself.

Her skin is glowing and her eyes look adorable almost doll like hence the doll inspired pose!.

It's an absolutely gorgeous colour combo and I actually wore this look with my glasses on to go out on errands. There's this look and another very similar but the lid is brown and the yellow is replaced with an iridescent white, it's stunning check it out.
I got a few compliments on the bottom lashes which make the eyes look big and enchanting.

Here's  close up of the eye make-up
In close ups the colour looks dull but the purple/brown shade was vibrant and shiny.

GD7 Spotlights-O.C.C make-up

Spotlight - O.C.C (Obsessive compulsive cosmetics)

I was introduced to this brand by some Gurus on YouTube, I had seen some use the lip tars and I became a little jealous that they were from the US.
I entered a huge competition on YouTube for the "Are You Fierce" contest and came 2nd!
My entry was a Kabuki style make-up and the prize was amazing I got to see what kind of brands are in the US right now and I tell you what they're great.
The one I fell in love with was O.C.C
The shadows were intensely pigmented, the glitter shines for miles and the lip tar is like wearable paint. Loves...
Enough of my rambles on to the swatches.

I will start with the eyshadows, I was sent 3 and they're all gorgeous.
Eyeshadows
$10 USD
There's an impressive array of colours to choose from, all to whet the appetite of an eager make-up addict!
The 3 I have are swatched below
I have swatched them over a M.A.C shade stick in beiging to help them stick and appear more intense.
From left to right-Auric (gold) Flicker (bronze) Layfette (olive)

Flicker is a favourite of mine and looks gorgeous on darker skin too.

$10 USD
Glitter in Citrus-It's a zesty yellow colour very bright and totally glitzy.

Moving on to the lip balms, these little fellas were the first 2 products O.C.C released.
Produced to act as a base under lipstick to make colours more intense. These feel lovely on the lips and smell like peppermint.
I couldn't see these on their website so I think they may have been discontinued?

Lip Tars
$12.50 USD
I have the colour Pagent and it has been the most questioned lipcolour I have worn on YouTube.
I get tonnes of people ask what it is and who it's by. It's the perfect barbie pink.
What I love about this product is the consistency it's so smooth and ridiculously pigmented. I can only describe it as paint but in a good way. I have never came across another product quite like this it's unique and has a permanent residence in my make-up draw.

Here's how it looks on
I was also give the nail polish in blackboard which is amazing, I would love more colours actually.
I did a post on green polish where this one is mentioned.
Visit O.C.C HERE

I have more brands to spotlight soon so keep an eye out.

Dare to go bare - Catwalk look

If you like bright lips but tired of the same old shades of red and pink look no further.

This is modern, daring and well different.
It's been about playing up smokey eyes for a while now so its so refreshing to see make-up thats so clean and show stopping.
I absolutely heart this although it doesn't look as hot on me as it would others.

The trick to this is healthy looking skin, I always get compliments on mine but honestly guys I have loads of scars where I had terrible skin as a teen.
To give the illusion of really healthy skin use a light weight foundation that gives a not too heavy coverage so the skin shows through and doesn't look too plastered.
Next I use a highlighter and a shimmer free bronzer!
Don't use anything with too much shimmer and certainly not glitter. For a realistic glow use a matte bronzer, I also use a darker foundation to contour.

Skip the blush and move straight onto the lips...

These images are from the Giles and Mark Fast catwalk show
It has a slight alien look about it but I actually like that fact. It's not the norm in your face "pretty" but I find it strong and confident.
To be fair you need alot of confidence for this if you dare to wear no eyeshadow or eyeliner OR even mascara, I felt the need to add the latter as I felt a little bare.

Lips are well defined and sharp use a lipliner if needed and clean the line with a concealer.
Products used-
Eyes
  • Revlon cream eyeshadow from the moonlit jewels palette
  • M.A.C zoom lash
Face
  • M.A.C face and body N3
  • Chanel bronze universal
Lips
  • Prestige red lipstick in wild flame
  • Grimas bright orange lipstick in 5.12
An easy quick eye catching look
Would you dare to go bare?

Tried and Tested - Eyeliner Sealers

 What are eyeliner sealers?
Eyeliner sealers are a liquid found in bottles with or without applicators that is mixed with an eyeshadow to produce a eyeliner.

How to use them?
They can be used with pressed or loose shadows or eyebrow cakes.
The best results are with loose pigments as the colour is more intense and it's easier to add to. If you mix the product on the pressed eyeshadow you may get a more translucent colour and run the risk of ruining the eyeshadow especially if it's matte.

There's the option of purchasing a sealer with an applicator brush which I find messier and difficult to use. Some wands are too soft, thick or small. I prefer using an angled brush and mixing a couple of drops of product on the back of my hand with the eyeshadow. I also found the product lasts on the skin longer when applied this way.
This is a Barry M pigment, I wanted to use a product that was impartial to the other brands for a fair view.

I used 6 products 3 with applicators 3 without.

Eyeko-Steady control, slightly watery and translucent.
GD7 rating-3/5
Jesse's girl-Dual ended applicator brush, a thick and thin brush. Worst of the 3, the brush contains too much product which makes the eyeshadow messy and clumpy. The thinner side is by far the best.
GD7 rating-2/5
Facefront-Provided an even pigmented line, applied smoothly and lasted on the skin even after removing. Best of the wand applicators
GD7 rating - 4/5

Bottled sealers
M.A.C-Worst of the 3, didn't mix to a nice consistency too watery even after mixing more pigment.Translucent finish not much hold.
GD7 rating-3/5
Medusa's make-up-Fantastic, smooth almost gel like when mixed.Stays pigmented on the skin.
GD7 rating 4/5
Illamasqua-The best of the 3, mixes well to a great eyeliner like consistency. Gives a smooth satin finish easy to apply and stays well pigmented on the skin
GD7 rating-5/5

Out of all the eyeshadow sealers/transformers I think Illamasqua's was by far the best.It lasts and really transforms the loose shadow into a creamy eyeliner perfect to create a line.

This gives you the opportunity to wear different coloured eyeliners without the restriction of sticking to one shade.

Give them a try it's fun but a pain to remove. Use olive oil (from the kitchen) on a cotton pad to remove eyemake-up.It's gentle and the oil breaks up the make-up making it easy to remove.

Hope this post helped

You Decide - Perfect pin up

I have been using a poll on my blog for a few weeks and I love to see what my viewers enjoy.
This weeks blog poll was what make-up look you prefer and the results were a land slide victory for 'Vintage Glam'.

So to celebrate your preference I will do a look based on the win but I want you guys to choose what I do.

There's a couple vintage style looks I could do so if you can think of a specific one then comment below and the most popular will be re-created.
I have just finished recording a tutorial for a summer look inspired by Mark Fast and Giles runway look. I will upload it hopefully today. I'm also really excited to do a look from Kellis' 4th July video, she is looking aa-maz-ing lately.

Thank you for your ideas

Who doesn't love easy fresh looking make-up?

I recently posted a catwalk inspired tutorial on my new channel. I'm kind of excited about it as I have a few ideas and feel like I can put some order into the way they are displayed.
I did this look after flicking through magazines and loved the simplicity of Aquascutum's eyeliner and natural beauty of Kristen Stewart. This is a very toned down look for a Catwalk make-up but the more artistic faces will be coming soon.

These are pictures of my inspiration
This was the look for Aquascutum's runway show , the eyeliner is simple but elongated the cheeks a light flush and the lips have a slight tint. It presents a youthful countryside image, innocent and fresh.
This is Kristen Stewart on the cover of this months UK ELLE. It is so similar to the image above however the eyeliner is more natural. She looks almost like she has no make-up on which is difficult to achieve.
My interpretation-I went on the rosey side for the flush by choosing similar tones on the cheeks and lips thus giving a uniformed natural look. Those above are peachy, if you look at Aquascutum's make-up you will see how the cheeks and lips have the same tone. This is important to create that flushed look.

Products used
Eyes
  • Stila eyeshadow wash in Kitten
  • M.A.C Kid eyeshadow
  • M.A.C Blacktrack gel eyeliner
  • M.A.C Zoom lash
Cheeks
  • Primark blush stick - it doesn't have a colour name as there's only one
Lips
  • Grimas lip pot in 3.27 it's a rose colour

    Dr Organic is great

I've been asked a million time what skincare I use, If I have facials and how to get perfect skin.
I'll answer each one separately; firstly I have always had this ethos that if you put good into your body good will show out. It's corny but hey it works so I'll carry on with this cheese fest.

On a serious note I am a firm believer that if you eat healthy then it definitely helps. I try eat and drink as much organic or additive/preservative free foods. The only vitamin I take is Iron as I can get a little on the anemic side if I don't get enough in my diet. I never eat red meat, not as a fancy dietary requirement but more as a taste choice. I hate the taste of red meat so haven't ate it for years. I compensate this factor by adding nuts and grains along with lots of spinach to my meals.
I have a well balanced diet which is mostly chicken, fish and vegetables.

I'm not a health freak but more a believer that natural is best, I never eat ready meals as they're packed with salt and preservatives to keep the food fresh. All them chemicals make me wonder what it does to your insides. I'm not by any means a food snob but I would rather spend 15 mins making a spag bol with quorn nince, tomato sauce and vegetables then bunging in a microwave meal for the same time. I used to do this at work and I noticed that I felt lethargic all the time and my skin wasn't healthy.
Also for those who suffer dry lips try cutting out salt for 1 week and see if you see the difference, if yours always crack and peel you may be dehydrated. I did this and never used salt now and I haven't had sore lips for a long time.

I wish I could have facials but being a beauty therapist I find it hard to relax when someone is doing a treatment I also feel like guilty paying for treatments all the time I mean the hair is expensive enough!

I have been using Neals Yard products for sometime, the fact it's mostly organic appealed the most to me as the ingredients have been around probably centuries.
I was using the frankincense facial oil and moisturiser but as I have ran out I went in search of a new product of equal properties.
Stupidly in the meantime I thought I would give my Loreal genesis moisturiser a bash...MISTAKE as I broke out.
I had read that the gorgeous Jameela Jamil uses an organic range found in Holland and Barretts called Dr Organic. She said the honey moisture smells and feels great so I made it my days mission to go looking for the chosen one. I decided on the vitamin E cream as it has more hydrating ingredients and so far it's working great.
    Just look at her skin

    Price- £6.99
    Where to find it-  http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/?linkpos=row1
                                http://www.drorganic.co.uk/
What they say - Organic Vitamin E Super Hydrating Cream 50ml
A fragrance free intensive, moisturising cream, formulated using a blend of naturally derived emollients and antioxidants, including Organic Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, Shea butter, Cocoa butter, Sweet Almond oil, Wheat Germ oil, Bergamot oil and Panthenol, for softly hydrated skin. This wonderful cream is a rich absorbent moisturiser, developed to penetrate deep into the skin’s epidermal layer, instantly hydrating and restoring the natural intercellular structure, leaving the skin radiant, rejuvenated and intensely moisturized. As a moisturizer this cream is safe to use on stretch marks, scars, very dry and aging skin.

Are there any other good organics range out there?

Catwalk Copycat - Chanel fall 2009

This is a late post as I've had loads on but I wanted to list the products used for this and add some pictures.

I love the femininity and exotic beauty of a glamorous 50's eyeliner. Chanel did this beautifully however it was exaggerated which is the reason I made it more wearable.
I fell in love with this look when I first set my eyes on it as there's a certain innocence about a fresh face and an elegant eye. Some may say it's a little winehouse but worn right I don't see anything wrong with a thick eyeliner.

    This is my inspiration
    Google image

The breakdown-This is a thick line from the mid section of the eye and carries on to the outer corner. The flick is very exaggerated and to elongate the eye the eyeliner is applied to the inner corner and pulled out slightly.
    My wearable version

It has a similar feel but looks softer and as people have said a little hippie!

    Products used -
    Eyes
    • M.A.C Chill eyeshadow
    • M.A.C Blacktrack eyeliner
    • M.AC Zoom lash mascara
    Cheeks
    • Primark blush stick
    Lips
    • M.A.C Viva glam V lipstick
So how simple is the look!!!

    HerStyleFile

Thanks to all you wonderful ladies who encouraged me to create a new YouTube channel. In my previous post I mentioned the problem I had with YouTube so my solution was to create a brand spanking new one.

I have called it HerStyleFile, I chose that because I'm always looking at different styles of make-up from celeb to runway so I thought this was a cute name. I'm hoping to have a website soon.

    This is the link
    http://www.youtube.com/user/HerStyleFile

I have a video uploaded already it is a continuation of the Catwalk Copy looks and it is inspired by the Chanel fall 2009 dramatic cateye.

I really hope you have the time to have a look and again thank you for all the positive messages you lot are amazing xxxx

    Dilemma

I have a slight dilemma, it's not major but I'm in a decision pickle.
As you guys know or if you don't I have a YouTube channel called Glitterdollz7.
    The problem is
1- I hate the name as it was a name I chose before I thought I was ever going to do vids and
2- I would like partnership so that I can make my videos longer and have a professional banner.
People may say it's for money by I have had adsense on my account for a while now and its pennies. So I can assure you it's not a money thing.

The hurdle I face is that YouTube won't give me Partnership because I have music on my old videos, you have the option of deleting these and trying in 3 months for Partnership again but from the experience of another YouTuber she got refused 4 times even after deleting her vids with music.

The only solution is to set up a new channel...
I feel a bit sad doing this as I have worked hard for my 13,000 subbies but a more professional page is needed. Maybe I should keep Glitterdollz7 and create a new channel and upload any new videos to the recent one?

What do you think and what would you like to see more of?
I know it's very trivial but I'm stuck and would appreciate any help

    Catwalk Copycat Versace metallics

I recently added a poll to  my blog to see what my viewers want more of and the outcome was dominated by the request for more Catwalk/Runway make-up.

I adore doing these looks as they're more challenging and get my creative juices going, my previous looks have been Dior, Sonia Rykiel, and Bottega Venetta.

The Runway looks are everything I love about make-up as it's not necessarily conventional beauty ,the materials aren't necessarily make-up and the make-up artists aren't always trained que my idol Pat McGrath. She infuses pretty make-up with exaggerated lines, colours and textures. Another absolute fav is Alex Box, this woman has an insanely quirky vision when it comes to make-up. Herself and Pat seem to dive out of the box and create artwork but still have the ability to draw that passion back and design "pretty" or "safe" make-up. I admire them incredibly for that and I hope that one day I could follow in their footsteps.

Today's look is inspired by the metallics seen on Versace A/W 2008 runway. Metallics are easy to wear easy to apply and suit any skin tone and eye colour.
These are typically seen on  Autumn Winter shows but I think using the right shades this looks beautiful in summer, imagine gliding along the beach in a maxi dress and metallic gold on the eyes and a golden gloss on the lips heavenly!.

Here's a couple more versions of this trend the one on the far right is the closest to mine.

    Bringing out Exibit A

Do brightly coloured blushes scare you off?

If so check this out and you might change your mind.
This blush is so bright you need to pull out your sunnies just to look at it. It is of course by Nars as the delightful photo shows. The name...Exibit A, have a look.

This actually looks a little more muted than it actually is!
How would I describe the colour - An extremely bright tangerine.

Who would wear this? - I would recommend this for olive to dark skin tones, oranges always look gorgeous on these colour skins so rock it.The darker the skin the better I say!

How to apply it? - Sparingly! no seriously this is so well pigmented a tiny bit is needed. Dip the tip of your brush in powder and gently swirl on the cheekbones up towards the hairline.

Tip# Blend extremely well, a good blush brush will be your best friend.

Here I have illustrated how strong the colour is to show you how little is needed.

This is just a regular swatch and my word it is powerful, look at the next picture to see how far the colour blended yet it still looks strong.

Yes this is just that smidgen of powder blended on my hand. Crikey right!

I must stress that unless you are going for an editorial look this is not good for pale skins
    1. It is too orange
    2. It will wash you out

At the moment I am a little paler than I normally am but I have applied a small amount on my cheeks to show you how you can achieve a subtle effect if you are light handed.

I have my eye on a gorgeous bright pink blush by Smashbox can't think of the name so any of you have bright blushes?

I love all your comments and opinions.

    Love Carly xx
