Ode to an icon- Audrey Hepburn make-up

Hands up if you love the legend that is Audrey Hepburn!

This lady is known all across the globe and is seen as a perfect idol by many.
Victoria Beckham's style has become very influenced by Audrey, it helps that she also has this slim frame so the clothes look similar but even us curvy girls can rock an AH look.

Firstly her style, it's timeless absolutely timeless. I mean I could see that LBD and pearls doing the fashion rounds for years to come. As for the large brim hat well that is so darling and instantly glams up a wardrobe whether it's a summer or winter outfit.
Her hair cut was daring and her frame was seen as boyish everything the look wasn't at that time. She set trends and continues to influence people. That is why I love her.

My attempt is a not as perfect as Audrey's but I had to give it a good go.

The above picture was not the image I took as inspiration as this has a red lip but the pose is similar!
I actually looked at a few of the Breakfast at Tiffany's pics and Kevin Aucoin's book.
The look
Classically this look is broken into 2 sections defined eye light lip. I love this combo its very 50's 60's and compliments everyone.
To achieve an elegant look keep the lower lashine and water line free of product so the eyelid is the focus and it becomes more of an almond shape which is considered exotic and sexy.
For the lips keep a fleshy tone I prefer a more matte lip for this look but you decide.

Glitterdollz7 Partnership! happy dance

I'm so pleased that YouTube has given my channel partnership. It's not very exciting for some but means alot to me! why? well because it means a more professional looking page and extra room for play lists and all that jazz.
I applied for partnership twice with Glitterdollz7 each time they denied the request as my channel was not in good standing due to copyright music on some of my earlier videos.
I found out a similar thing happened to a guru who deleted all these copyright infringing videos but still got denied due to too many strikes on her channel.
Soooo I set up a new one called HerStyleFile and began uploading on there and immediately was got a application from YouTube for partnership and I hadn't even asked for it! I made a video on Glitterdollz7 explaining that I was moving to the new channel then today they have given my channel partnership. I'm pleased but could throttle them for making me switch about. I'm going to keep HerStyleFile to upload personal and random stuff of me,friends, health and fitness and keep Glitterdollz7 for beauty and make-up. It's a shame because I don't really like the name that much now but hey I'm a YT partner now so no complaining.

So sorry for messing you guys about!

Oh and I just uploaded an Audrey Hepburn tutorial on Glitterdollz7 so please have a look. Blog post coming soon!

Loads of kisses

Enhance those green eyes

This is the first tutorial for complimenting eye colours. Today is the turn of those lucky ladies with green eyes. I have blue but I am wearing hazel contacts here and my eyes look a little green. Colour wheels are a great investment for budding make-up artists as they really help you understand complimenting and clashing colours. What enhances and what cancels out. It's a fantastic tool when it comes to concealing and choosing eyeshadow looks.

Opposite green is red on the colour wheel but I doubt people will find just red on their eyes attractive, so take the colour either side of that which is orange and purple. I have chosen to use copper and smokey purple for a heavier look.

I will be doing more looks for brown and blue eyes to so watch out!

My jewellery storage ideas

I always get asked to show my jewellery collection and how do I store my belongings so here it is.

I bought these drawer inserts from Ikea a while ago to fit into my MALM dressing table that was also from there. When I moved to Glasgow I needed a large desk to do my videos on so we made a trip to trusty Ikea and thus MALM was mine. However I needed storage for inside the drawer so I originally bought some stationary organisers which initially were perfect as they have narrow columns ideal for my pigments and larger ones for powders and such.

Then when I moved again I had more space and decided to buy 2 drawers, moved the make-up into them and bought these handy little trays for my desk to store my jewellery.

They were also from Ikea however I don't know the name but they were around £4-7

I store my bangles and some earings differently which I will go on to explain now.
These are my bangles and some dangley earrings
Here's some loose bracelets I have draped these into a cocktail glass that I originally had a candle in.I made the purple bead bracelet to match my handbag.
The bangles are stacked onto...wait for it...a toilet roll holder. Perfect for keeping them out the way and letting you see what you have.
This is my wire butterfly jewellery rack I use it to store my big earrings and a couple of bracelets, I bought this from a cheap store like International .
This is inside my drawer. One section is for my watches and necklaces like above.
The mid section is for my rings.
And the end is where I keep my smaller earrings. This is cleaver as it has small cube inserts however it is also a lid so inside I keep my big hoop and longer earrings.
This is the inside compartment ,it is quite big keeps everything neat and hidden
In the space at the end of my drawer I placed a white plastic basket and added a pink face cloth. This is where I keep any bracelets that don't fit onto my holder and also keeps my thin ones together.

I have way more necklaces but they hang in another room. The ones in the drawer are my fine delicate ones, with a couple being vintage I didn't want to cause stress on the chains by hanging them up.

Did this give any of you lot ideas?
If you have shelves try buying cute baskests, decorating them and maybe labelling the front with whats inside?

New catwalk trends for A/W 2010-11

A large number of designers have followed suit for this A/W make-up. It is clean simple and still manages a bit sex appeal.

So far I have noticed Prada,D&G,Louis Vuitton,Stella McCartney and Ralph Lauren  to name few but I know there's many more opting for this look.

I became drawn to this after seeing one of the new "in things" for next season which is a celebration of femininity. Wasp-waists are in with skinny belts and sashes helping create and hourglass figure. Luxurious fabrics and full swing skirts are what was seen. Pencil skirts were also a highlight yet again creeping into the collections as it tends to do for A/W.

To co-ordinate the  make-up for this trend they have mostly chose a simplistic look. Pale eyeshadow on the lids with minimal if any eyeliner and a soft contour in the crease. This underdone style oozes sophistication and looks so fresh and clean.

This is also beautiful on darker skin too, instead of a pearl white try a soft golden tone on the lid so it doesn't appear too harsh.

Another key point to this look is softly contoured cheeks with a pale pink blush and a relatively nude glossy lip. If you prefer a bit more colour to the lips try a stain rather than a block of colour.

I am looking forward to wearing this look along with my pencil skirt jersey top and long leather gloves. Cute as a button!

Vegan friendly make-up

Urban Decay have brought out it's very first vegan friendly palette.
They have a large selection of vegan products 60% infact but they claim this is the first palette created using all vegan eyeshadows.
Urban Decay is 100% cruelty free so they never test on animals but some products may use animal ingredients for example some brands use Lanolin (sheep oil)

The colours are quite neutral but there's a gorgeous blue in there and you also get a 24/7 eyeliner pencil in zero and a travel primer potion in sin.
This is such a green palette as it is made lovingly with re-cycled packaging and printed using soya based inks. No planet harming here no sirrrrey

Taking a look at the palette you can see the cutest animals sketched all over in an innocent and delicate way.

Urban Decay do the sweetest packaging and clearly took vegans into consideration for this palette however if you have any of these colours you may not feel it is plausible to purchase it.

These are the eyeshadow that come with the kit:

Vegan: Eyeshadows: Minx, Urb, Gunmetal, Twice Baked, Smog, Half-Baked; Travel-size 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil: Zero; Eyeshadow Primer Potion: Sin.
I'm not sure why they keep repeating colours surely if they continue this trend everyone will have the colours and  feel no need to purchase their eyeshadows?
I'm not sure what do you think? hmmmm

Price $34
This is out in the US now but I'm guessing a week or 2 before it comes to the UK. I will let you know when I get confirmation.

Have a look on the Urban Decay  website for more details.

I don't think I will be buying this as I have a few of these colours but I wanted to give a shout to any of my vegans out there who may be interested!

Gel Eyeliner Review - Coastal Scents

Today I am reviewing the Coastal Scents gel eyeliners.
I was introduced to this highly affordable brand through YouTube, I saw alot of make-up artist use them for bases as well as eyeliner which helped me experiment more with products.
I later won a number of these and they became my new favourite eyeliner, instantly replacing my M.A.C fluid line. Yes they are that good!

The consistency is very creamy and dries evenly. I found it easy to apply and lasted a while longer before drying than the M.A.C. one.

The price difference
M.A.C £12.50
C.S $6.95 which is around £4-5

They have a massive selection of colours, 25 to be exact and they're all gorgeous. I love the look of Beach Glass, it looks perfect for summer.

Swatches
As I used most the black eyeliner there was only a little in the bottom and what was left was dry but I still managed to get a well pigmented swatch.
Bear in mind I have had these over a year and the ones I hadn't used were still perfectly workable and creamy.
If your bored of black eyeliner or have more mature skin and want a softer look the brown is perfect. If you want a brighter fun look try using the purple or green all over the lid as a base and add a loose shimmer eyeshadow on top and blend the crease with greys or browns.

GD7 TOP TIP#
If your eyeliners have dried out than try adding some fix + to the gel and mixing with a small spatula or cocktail stick. This will add the need moisture and save you some money.

Do you guys use gel eyeliners?
What is your favourite Coastal Scents product - what can you recommend me?

Fun photos of groovy nights out

Admittedly I actually rarely go out since being pregnant and having my little boy but when I do I make a special effort.
Do you guys choose your outfits  then your make-up or apply your war paint then get the glad rags on?
I like to choose my clothes first but if I have a couple to choose from I pick my eyeshadow colours accordingly. I don't like to be matchy matchy so I like my make-up to look equally as individual as my clothing.
If I wear all black I like to add colour into my eyeshadow like pinks or purples, if I wear muted colours I wear smokey or taupes on my eyes and sometimes I like a simple 40's style look. No fuss some eyeliner and red lips and away you go.

Here's some fun little photos of me and my loved ones

Here I have hardly any eyeshadow but added drama with lower lashes
This isn't very clear but the best in terms of close up. I chose very dark purples and blacks dressed up with thick lashes.
This was taken in Dublin, I had my almost black hair here that some loved some hated. I am wearing a black jumpsuit and wanted some drama on my eyes as the outfit was plain. Although you can't see, it has lots of purple in there like M.A.C nocturnelle and blackberry.I have taken the eyeshadow really far down on the lower lashline for a deeper look.
This is me and the man of my life, I went quite casual wearing an off the shoulder top and skinny jeans so went for an effortless but still smokey look. I used greys from my Sigma palette but didn't add black as I wanted to keep it soft.
I went a bit darker on the lips here, normally when I have a smokey eye I have a pale lip but I choose a berry colour. I have browns on my eyes from the neutral Sigma palette.
I'm dancing my head off here but I am wearing copper on my eyes from the Sleek palette.
This is my birthday night out, the first time going out after giving birth 2 my son 4 months prior. Barely there make-up pearl eyeshadow, thick upper eyeliner and a rose pink lip.

My tip for getting your make-up right for nights out is to perfect the base. If you have too much shimmer you will look greasy on pictures. Don't over do the bronzer or fake tan as it can give a mucky effect on camera too. A little is the best way forward, I hardly use bronzer on a night out as I like my skin to look bright and fresh. I apply a little around the hairline and under cheekbones and a little blush to make me look lively. I always apply highlighter to my cheekbones to give a healthy glow and only play up one area of the face so either the eyes or lips.

This isn't a serious post it's just for fun and to see what you guys do for nights out.

So come on guys show me your night time make-up
What do you think of mine, too heavy too light?

D.I.Y hair colour

I wanted to update you girlies who have asked about my most recent hair colour. I was quite light you would say a caramel colour until recently when I decided I missed my glossy brown mane.
Firstly I used a light brown by Loreal it's a 28 shampoo hair dye which coloured my hair nicely but I wanted it a little darker.
So after a couple of months I applied a chocolate brown (see above) which left my hair soft shiny but very red, if you have quite light hair be careful of this as it does contain alot of red in the colour.
Going by the appearance on the box and just general thoughts about what a chocolate colour is I would have thought maybe it was going to have a caramel under tone to it rather than red.

I liked the darkness of the colour but felt I wanted to tone the red down just a little.

Image with flash chocolate hair colour

I wanted more brown tones with out having to use a permanent hair dye so I went to my local hair suppliers and purchased a demi.

Like permanent hair dye, demi-permanent hair dye contains an alkaline activating agent, but unlike permanent dye, it does not contain ammonia. Demi-permanent hair colour can add both colour and shine, but does not actually lighten the hair. However, unlike temporary hair dye, which does not penetrate the hair shaft but rather only coats it, demi-permanent hair dye does deposit some penetrating color to the hair shaft that can last up to 25 shampoos.
The primary use of demi-permanent hair colour in a salon setting is to refresh existing colour, blend gray, and provide a color boost to otherwise chemically treated or damaged hair. For people with existing color-treated hair, demi-permanent hair colour can refresh the existing colour without additional damage while only the new growth is retreated with the permanent counterpart. Demi-permanent hair dye is also a good choice for people who want a colour boost lasting longer than temporary dye, but without the commitment of permanent dye.
Due to the absence of ammonia, demi-permanent hair dye is much gentler on the hair than the permanent variety. For this reason, many demi-permanent dyes can be used on newly relaxed or permed hair without the risk of further chemical damage. Sometimes colour is applied only to give a bit of texture to the hair shaft or add shine and some demi-permanent hair dyes are even colourless in order to achieve this result.
For people wanting to lighten their hair, even a shade or two, demi-permanent hair dye is not a viable option. Alternatives to demi-permanent hair dye that will lighten the hair and may still create minimal damage, such as low-ammonia cream hair colours, are available, but any product that will lighten hair will still cause some damage, especially if the hair was previously chemically or heat damaged.

Don't be deterred by the fact you need to use an activator as it is a very low percentage so there is little damage but if you have never trained in hairdressing or don't feel confident then go to your salon.

Please note# When using any form of chemical dye or tint on the skin do a patch test 48 hours prior if you haven't used that brand before. Even if your regularly dye your hair you need to be vigilant and pay respect to each brand as different ingredients could affect the skin. ALWAYS DO SKIN TEST FOR NEW BRANDS YOU TRY.

To do this you would get a metal free bowl add a tiny amount of dye and activator. Don't mix all of the product as this will be a waste as dyes only last 45 minutes.

Images after the demi no 5 hair tint. It has toned the red down a little without adding too much darkness
As a general rule in hair colour the darkest colour available starts at 1 and gets lighter. 6 is considered light brown but beware colours look darker than they look on the box so go a shade or 2 lighter.

If in doubt always seek professional advice. I am not and do not claim to be professional although I have had little training. Please don't hold me accountable for any mishaps or blame me for staining your mums new carpet :)
