Review - AVON Luxe Lace the good and the bad

I have had these products a few weeks but it has given me chance to give them a good review and see what I actually reach for to use. There's some I adore and some I don't so less of my chit chat lets get to it!

The Eyeshadow quad
Price
Was £8  now £5

This quad is called Lace Hues, Lace Electric is also available, I was very disappointed in the colour payoff from these. At a push and lots of layers I got the blue and green to show quite nicely but I don't want that level of effort to get an average amount of eyeshadow on.

Check the swatches below, I swatched them how I would swatch a normal eyeshadow. You can see how light they are.

I liked the palette but the pigment let it down.

Ultra colour rich Lipstick

Price
Was £7 Now £5

This shade is called Pout and it is a precious vintage style pink. I was impressed with this, the product is moisturising but still delivers a nice coverage. I would recommend this to those who like soft pinks and those who want to start wearing lipsticks. This is a great colour to start your love affair!
Comes in 3 shades, Pout, Frostiest Mauve and Instant Mocha

Great lipstick for your neutral lip days and packaging is cute too.

Avon Luxe Lace Supershock mascara
 Price
Was £8 Now £5

This is the new mascara from the Lace Luxe collection, I will admit straight up that I didn't even try it as I knew I wouldn't like it. The wand is very thick and chunky which makes for messy application and mistakes. I have tried these wands before and I will go as far as to say I hate them. I have quite large eyes and they always scratch my tightline so god only knows how those with smaller eyes use this? It's one of those with millions of tiny plastic spike too which does separate lashes but makes them look very thin.
GD7 rating 1/5

Supershock Gel eyeliner
Price
Was £6 Now £3

I don't have to say much other than this is a MUST BUY! I cannot get over this product, it's such amazing quality for the price I mean £6 was fantastic but £3 is incredible.
It comes in two colours black and silver, I don't have the silver but I am making sure I get my hands on one. I will say in my opinion that it is AS good as Stila Onyx.
Use this as a base, liner or just smudge on the eye for a rock chick look.

L.OT.D - Chunky knits and stripes

I find this weather makes choosing what to wear a nightmare at the moment, it's too cold for little cardigans but I get too warm walking round in a coat. My answer? Chunky knits.
Not just cardigans but sweater dresses, over the knee or ankle socks and super long scarves.

My ensemble above consists of
H&M stripey dress, Topshop knit, tights and black shearling buckle boots from New Look. The hat is from Accessorize.

In keeping with the cosy look I went for a natural but groomed look by defining the corners of the eyes and using a light gloss on the lips. My hair was gently waved.

What's your cosy look?

Review - MyFace blushers

Although this isn't a new product to me I thought I would share my opinion on MyFace blusher. I purchased one a while back called Costa del Soul and was impressed.
I have explained in my foundation post using MyFace that they have a colour system and it works the same for the rest of the range.
The three above are from the medium section. I was sent all three but the I already had the one in the middle so I have saved the Costa Del Soul I was sent to put in my prize draw.

I am fairly pale but all three of these work well with my skin tone. Copa Choca Latta in particular (on the left) is a favourite in my blush collection.

What they look like
(They're heavily swatched )

Copa Choca Latta is a dusty warm pink, it warms the complexion and looks very natural on the skin. I wore this in my Enhance blue eyes video or Blue is banging post.

Costa del Soul is a bright pink with a peach twist. It also contains a gorgeuos subtle shimmer that makes skin sheen rather than sparkle.
Lady Monaco is a deep pink, this will perk up any skin and give a very natural flush.

Blue is banging

Whats your thoughts on blue eyeshadow?
Are you thinking "it's dated" or "it's a Pat Butcher look" then you may be converted.
Blue eyeshadow looks incredible on brown eyes as it compliments the colour as well as being an opposite which brings them out.
I re-created a favourite look of mine which is Eve's make-up from the tambourine video. It looks absolutely amazing on her deep golden skin and dark eyes.
M.A.C created the looks for her, each as stunning as the other.
The colours they used for this creation were Electric Eel, Bang on Blue and Saddle eyeshadows.

What I used

M.A.C Fresh water, Kid and Naked Lunch e.s
Too faced blue primer
Avon black eye Kohl
M.A.C no 8 lashes
M.A.C prrr lipgloss
Myface Mocha choca latta blush

How to
  • Prime the lid with the Too faced primer
  • Apply freshwater to the enter lid and lower lashline
  • Apply naked luch as highlight to the brow bone
  • Gently warm the crease with a flesh colour shadow is used kid
  • Run black khol along the waterline and upper lashline
  • Add lashes and mascara
Tip#
Keep blue eyeshadow looking modern by complimenting with fresh dewy skin and soft neutral lips.

M.A.C also did this look for Peter Jensen

You can use other blues but choose ones on the bright side rather than muted powder blues. Here's a couple of alternatives.
On the left I have shown other blues that are similar to Fresh water. Try Barry M in 22 or Medusa make-up blue pigment.

This is a perfect trendy evening look.

What do you think?

Don't judge a product by the packaging!

Sometimes I question the quality of these free beauty products you get in these glossy mags, I usually just pass them on to someone but lately I've been keeping them for myself.
The past two magazines I have purchased lately have came with a free nail polish. Marie Claire had  a free Ciate polish which is actually gorgeous and Cosmopolitan included a nail polish by Missguided. To be honest I had poor expectations for the Missguided product as I predidcted it would be watery and not very pigmented. Oh how I was wrong!
Lets repeat the title as I hold my head in shame, It was actually very nice. The colour was something I was actually looking for. I already have some nude colours but I find some make us pale people look washed out. This had more of a beige undertone which complimented my cooler tones better so thanks Missguided.

Purrfect Halloween look

What are you doing for Halloween?
Whether your going to a friends or having a big night out these ears will make you look cute and fun at the same time.
If you are one of those who like to participate but doesnt like dressing up to the max this is just the ticket. It will also look funky on those who want to don the whole catsuit look but need a pop of print to jazz up that all black outfit.

What you need
  •  Plain headband (black preferably)
  • Shoulder pads
  • Leopard print or lace
  • Glue gun
  • white eyeliner
  • Scissors

How to
  • If the headband isnt black then wrap some material around the entire area until covered. You will need glue to adhere this.

  • Making the ears are simple, take a shoulder pad and draw a cat ear shape with white eyeliner and cut out. Trace the first ear and cut so you have 2.
  • Next you cover the ears with whatever material you have chosen. Using the glue gun or super glue apply adhesive to the surface and wrap the material until it's covered. Alternatively sew the material around the ear.
  •  Now that they are covered glue them to the headband and your finished!
Wear with a costume or go subtle with a black swing dress, or leather trousers and black shirt.

Blue nails it!

When it comes to the colder months warmer colours come into play, hues of rich gold, berry and greens. Everything cosy and Christmasy but lets not forget the gorgeous blues that add the pop of colour but also a classic touch.

This week I have been championing Indigo nails by Barry M. It's one of 2 new colours perfect for winter but also cute for wearing into Spring next year!

The colour looks very blue but it actually has a hint of purple which gives it warmth.

Where to buy?
Superdrug or online

This would look incredible with some gold nail art so go experiment.

Halloween nails using Barry M nail effects

Introducing a innovative design by Barry M, this nail effects polish is a fabulous product which transforms a boring lacquer into a funky design.
Easy to use, this product applies like any normal nail varnish but dries to a marbled effect. I love watching the black gloss shrink into what seems like tiny islands on the nail.
It takes seconds to develop and really makes an impact. Make your Halloween nails look different this season, no effort needed. Also you can use any brand nail polish as the base it doesn't have to be Barry M!

How I used mine

What I used
I went for Halloween colours with the green and orange but threw in something a little different with a purple-blue. Obviously the black overlay gives it that special Halloween effect. Granted it's nothing intricate but for the time taken to do I think it looks like alot of effort has been made.
I used all Barry M colours,
Coral
Mint green
Indigo
After they have tried apply ONE thin layer of the nail effects and thats it!

Wonder product-Varama

I had the pleasure of testing a new camouflage product produced by Varama.
Doing a Beauty Therepy course meant we learnt about many skin conditions and how to camouflage some such as Vitiligo or Chloasma and even tattoos.

As I explain in the video the method I was taught involved more colours and products and a more in depth knowledge of application. Varama makes it easy for even a total make-up novice. It also means men feel more comfortable using just a couple of colours, as some still see it as applying make-up.

In the video I show you how I cover my tattoo and conceal under my eyes. I also demonstrate how the product is waterproof and in this post show you how I concealed a tattoo on dark skin.

The Product

Varama's system is easy to use as you choose your ethnic group then your colouring within that group. For example I chose white then medium. I do look very pale in the video but I'm not that pale in reality. I have a fair bit of yellow in my skin although I am pale so I like that they don't just assume pale skins have pink undertones.

With your colouring you will get a colour dropper which is an intensely pigmented cream to create an exact match of your skin.

To get that match you mix the shade closest to your skin colour with a deeper shade to create the warmth then add a tiny amount of the drop in to get the undertone you need.

Coverage
Varama has made this so simple, you use the same method for covering everything regardless of the colour of the mark your trying to hide. I covered mine and my partners tattoo using my colourings and it worked great although I needed the darker cream to get an ideal match for the dark skin. However I was just testing if a dark tattoo on dark skin would cover well.

You can see how this needs more red and a deeper brown for an exact colour however the effect is clear.

Covering dark circles

Im quite lucky I don't have serious dark circles but I still like to cover the ones I have. This is the most effective coverage for under the eyes I have ever used. It is creamy enough not to drag, opaque enough to make you look like you've had amazing sleep but dewy enough to look like skin.
Use like any normal concealer just get a match by mixing the colours, I applied this on top of my foundation so you could see the effect properly but ideally I would use this under my foundation so it's not too contrasting.

Opinion.
Fantastic product made for use by men, women and children (of a certain age)
Easy to use, great to take on holiday to cover scars or marks as its waterproof and brilliant for building people confidence if their skin conditions let have them feeling down.
Also great as a foundation or concealer.
All round thumbs up, a kit booster for MUA's.

YouTube video will be up soon, it's a little long so I have had to chop it down into 2 parts!

For organic lovers everywhere

Do you like organic products whether it be skincare, nail polishes or cosmetics but find them hard to find?

There's a few websites to find them, I will gather more information and do a big post on this but if your in the mood for a bargain and want to treat yourself or give a gift then the people at Lucyrose.biz have free P&P on orders. I haven't tried Zoya nail products but this website sells them along with  Green People, Weleda, Nvey Eco, Elysambre and more.

Wait before you buy though as they are have a special promotion on their facebook page. If more than 500 users 'like' their fan page by midnight Friday 22/10/10, they will issue an exclusive discount code that can be used on their website.

I don't have details of how much the discount is but saving money regardless sounds good to me. I also have some Lily Lolo products to review soon. The packaging is so cute and my Nana is called Lily so I already like it :)

Find the details on their facebook page here.
